What’s an Izakaya?
An Izakaya (a type of Japanese bar) is a casual place for after work drinking with colleagues and bosses. Izakaya culture is a form of entertainment. Even if you do not drink, you will still find yourself enjoying the food and the atmosphere.
Particularly, for businessmen, it allows them to care less about hierarchical relationships outside the office. Everyone gets closer, friendlier, and it can be useful to understand who your colleagues are and their typical mindset while they are off work.
Izakaya serves a variety of dishes as Chicken Karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken), Yakitori (chicken skewers), edamame, grilled fish, French fries, Sashimi, Sushi, Nabe (Japanese hotpot), salad and many others.
*Note that the previous description is just an example of what is normally served in an Izakaya: you will taste some of the dishes listed and others.
